Dear Sir:
Thank you for your question. It is undeniable that Emei altered its policy regarding Wudang dramatically when Zhang Cuishan and his family returned from overseas, But I wonder whether it can be attributed simply to Miejue's value judgment. No Doubt Miejue personally hated Xiexun, who had murdered her elder brother cruelly. And Miejue had a strong desire to get the Dragon Saber, the secret of which only she knew. But in my opinion, the main reason for this change is that when Emei supported Wudang against the accusation concerning Longmen Biaoju Massacre, Wudang still remained in the orthodox union, and showed no sign of collaborating with Manichaeanism or other devil cults. As orthodox schools, Wudang and Emei could support and benefit each other even when they were criticized by others. But when it is revealed that Zhang Cuishan married Yin Susu, and was a close friend of Xie Xun the murderer, it was widely suspected that Wudang had already allied itself with Tianying Cult, which meant it didn't deserve the title of respected orthodox school (ming men zheng pai) any longer, and would be expelled from the orthodox camp. Obviously, if Emei still defend Wudang before other schools, it would face the same accusation itself. That's why Miejue cannot but suddenly break off its relation with Wudang. So what Miejue made is not a idealistic gesture, but a realistic decision.
With kind Regards,
Jean-Pierre Sean. |
